Why B Corp is important to us

Bodhi was the fifth company and the first tourism business to be B Corp certified in Costa Rica. Even more exciting, we were the very first surf and yoga camp in the world to earn this distinction. We feel that it definitively puts this amazing life project and experiment, Bodhi Surf + Yoga camp, into the ranks of the many companies we admire — those that use their business as a force for good and create benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders.

B Corp benefits for guests

When you choose to vacation at Bodhi Surf + Yoga camp, you are, in essence, putting your money towards sustainable tourism and responsible business practices. By supporting a B Corporation, you can be confident that you are contributing to the efforts of a company that supports its community, treats its workers fairly, and cares for its home environment. You are also rejecting the traditional business model that values profits above all else and fails to consider the entire impact of its operations. Your patronage makes you part of a movement that aims to shake up the existing system and create a market where companies compete to be not best in the world, but best for the world!

Community programs

Bodhi has either designed or co-developed a number of community programs that aim to preserve or improve the place we call home. Some of our areas of impact are providing educational opportunities, improving the environment, and uniting community members.
Our community programs include:
Service & Surf Saturdays
Yoga for the Community
Bahia Ballena Libre de Plástico
In 2016, we were one of 15 local businesses that gathered on World Oceans Day to come up with ideas to reduce our plastic impact as a community. We were also one of the first that made a commitment to refuse single-use plastics. For several years, a portion of the funding from our Travelers’ Philanthropy Program was used to advance the Bahia Ballena Libre de Plastico. Ahead of the annual Whales and Dolphins Festival held in September and October in Bahia Ballena, countless individuals, organizations, and businesses came together to create a nine meter long humpback whale replica out of 3,494 single-use plastic bottles. The whale has been displayed at festivals and public sites all over Costa Rica, and has served as a symbol of human plastic consumption and its impact on the marine ecosystem, reminding us of the importance of reducing our impact.

impact reduction

At Bodhi Surf + Yoga, we believe that reducing our individual and company footprint is important, both for the act itself and to be positive role models for other people and businesses alike. This is a category we can still improve a great deal, but this challenge serves as motivation. We reduce our environmental impact by having onsite compost and recycling, limiting our use of plastics, and using biodegradable cleaning products.
